research division of the
Media Development Foundation

We conduct research within Europe, the Eastern Partnership countries and Ukraine. Our products cover both research for the internal needs of MDF and collaboration with other organizations, the media and donors.

Research and Analytics MDF bases its work on in-depth interviews, participant observation, surveys, analysis of constituent instruments, as well as content and marketing indicators. Our research methods are mostly qualitative rather than quantitative, based on the scientific developments and experience of our experts.

We believe that a thorough study of processes in the media will help make their ecosystem better as a whole.

OUR PRODUCTS

Annual media market research

MDF regularly conducts a comprehensive analysis of the media market to understand the latest trends, changes, issues and needs of media organizations. This approach helps MDF to develop and implement its projects based on authentic market data and insights.

Needs assessment of media organizations

This type of research is conducted by MDF at the very beginning of the projects implemented by the organization. In this way, we can track the real needs of media organizations, analyze which of them are in greater priority and how to meet them in the most effective way. Research and Analytics MDF also conducts assessment for donors within their projects

Impact assessment of media projects

The main task of this type of study is to check the achievement of goals and impacts that were set within the project. The assessment requires systematic approach and background knowledge of the peculiarities of the media. Research and Analytics MDF has the necessary resource to conduct this type of assessment both for its own needs and for external partners.

Specialized research of media processes and outlets

We create in-depth research that focuses on a specific topic or phenomenon in the field of media — investigative journalism, media management, etc. These are international projects that cover the media not only in Ukraine, but also in the Eastern Partnership countries and in Europe.

Monitoring and evaluation

We have a system for collecting quantitative and qualitative indicators, which helps us to identify the best ways to implement projects and ensure the achievement of indicators and goals within it, to adjust the implementation and progress of projects if necessary. MDF performs monitoring and evaluation not only for individual projects, but also comprehensively on a quarterly basis.
